LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:
The project is located approximately 25 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles in San Pedro Bay. Two of the world’s largest ports are located within this harbor - Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach. Port of Los Angeles (POLA) is ranked the busiest container port in the US and number 17 in the world. Container volume in 2018 was 9.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), cargo valued at $273 billion. Port of Long Beach (POLB) is ranked the second busiest port in the US and number 20 in the world. Container volume in 2018 was 8.1 million TEUs, cargo valued at $180 billion. If combined, the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach would be the world’s ninth busiest port complex by container volume.  The project also includes a federal channel in the mouth of Los Angeles River. This federal channel provides service to the City of Long Beach. The Catalina Express, a ferry operation to the Catalina Islands, operates in the vicinity of the federal channel.
