Los Angeles District

Updated: March 17, 2023

Due to recent rainstorm events, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will make higher-than-normal water releases beginning March 20 from Alamo Dam.

The Corps plans to begin releasing water that morning at a rate of 250 cubic feet per second and will increase it to 5,000 cubic feet per second by the afternoon to bring the water surface elevation of Alamo Lake back to its target level of 1,125 feet.

Most of the water releases will occur during that week and will taper off over the subsequent weeks. As the lake’s water surface approaches its target elevation, base flow releases of 25 cubic feet per second will resume. The scheduled release is subject to change in the event of unforeseen circumstances or additional inclement weather.

For those planning to visit downstream of the dam between March 20 and mid-April, please check  http://resreg.spl.usace.army.mil/pages/alamo.php for real-time information on the water release rates of the dam and exercise caution.
