On Nov.11, over 10 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District staff employees and family members marched in “America’s Parade” on the VA West Los Angeles Medical Center campus.  The parade was coordinated through the County of Los Angeles, City of Los Angeles and the American Legion, partnered with the United War Veterans Council, organizers of the New York Veterans Day Parade.   Prior to the start of the parade, District Commander, Col. Kirk Gibbs, attended the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the National Ceremony attended by California State Secretary of Veteran Affairs Vito Imbasciani and LA County Board Supervisor Hilda Solis.  The ceremony and parade honors America's Veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Tommy Lasorda, former LA Dodgers manager, takes a moment to meet USACE employees. Lasorda was the Grand Marshall for the Veterans Day parade.

Los Angeles - In honor of Veterans Day, Nov.11, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District military, staff and family members marched in “America’s Parade” on the VA West Los Angeles Medical Center campus. Prior to the start of the parade, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District Commander Col. Kirk Gibbs, observed the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Los Angeles National Ceremony.  The ceremony was attended by California State Secretary of Veteran Affairs Vito Imbasciani and LA County Board Supervisor Hilda Solis.  The ceremony and parade honors America's Veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. 

The one-mile parade route, took participates through the medical center campus passing the California State Home, the Veteran’s Community Living Center and The Old Soldiers Home Chapel.   Marchers exclaimed “Happy Veterans Day” to the Veterans, families, children, local residents and VA staff who stood along the parade route.  Tommy Lasorda, LA Dodgers former club manager, was the parade’s Grand Marshall.  The Corps’ participation in the Veterans Day parade at WLA, was a visible show of support to Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations and the VA. 

The County of Los Angeles, City of Los Angeles and the American Legion, partnered with the United War Veterans Council, organizers of the New York Veterans Day Parade, organized the Los Angeles Veterans Day event activities.
