    Corps general tours military, DOD, VA projects during weeklong visit to California

    LOS ANGELES – One of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ top generals for military and international operations made his first visit to Southern California during a weeklong tour of some of the agency’s Los Angeles District projects. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Milhorn, the Corps’ deputy commanding general for Military and International Operations, toured several project sites across the desert and the coastline – from the National Training Center at Fort Irwin to Vandenburg Air Force Base – during his visit to California.

    General visits LA-area hospitals, gets updates on construction progress in support of COVID-19 response

    Brig. Gen. Paul Owen, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Pacific Division commander, visited two Los Angeles-area hospitals March 19 to view the progress on construction the Corps and its contractors are doing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Edwards Air Force Base officials cut ribbon on new fire station, applaud Corps, contractor for award-winning design

    Edwards Air Force Base officials cut the ribbon on an award-winning airfield fire station Dec. 8 during an intimate, socially distanced ceremony at the base in California. The Flightline Fire Station, designed by I.E. Pacific, Inc., recently won the Facility Design Honor Award – the highest achievement – in the 2020 U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center Design Award Program. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District was the design agent for the facility.

    Corps’ employees participate in National Engineer Week event, tout career as positive impact on others

    Three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District employees traveled to John Muir High School Feb. 12 to share their career experiences with students during the school’s Engineering Week. Capt. Gus Madrigal with the Contracting Division; Linh Do of the Engineering Division; and Jenna May, a biologist with the Planning Division, spoke with ninth to 12th grade students during the school’s Engineering and Environmental Science Academy Career Exploration Showcase. In its seventh year, the career exploration showcase gives students the opportunity to meet with and interview industry professionals from various agencies representing engineering and environmental disciplines.

    Top Corps general tours Golden State projects

    The commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers toured several of the agency’s Los Angeles District projects during a recent three-day visit to the Golden State. Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite visited Southern California July 8 to 10, touring the San Diego border construction project, before heading to the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System Medical Center to visit the sites of the future mental health in-patient/out-patient facility and community living center, which are under construction.
