Published Nov. 2, 2015

LOS ANGELES-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District awarded a more than  $26 million contract to Cox Construction of Vista, California for the construction of a new unmanned aircraft systems hangar and support facilities at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, Oct. 29.

The contract calls for the construction of a 52,000 square foot hangar, repair shops, company administration offices, aircraft container storage, and vehicle parking.

Repairs will be made to existing runway, taxiway, and access apron.

Currently, there are no UAS facilities on Fort Irwin.  This project will accommodate a new mission for a UAS company to train alongside other units training at the NTC.

The NTC conducts tough and realistic training to prepare brigade combat teams and other units for combat, while taking care of Soldiers, Army Civilians, and family members.

The construction of the facility is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.
