Our diverse workforce of biologists, engineers, geologists, hydrologists, natural resource managers and other professionals meets the demands of changing times and requirements as a vital part of America's Army.

The Los Angeles District provides civil works and military engineering support to Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. The area encompasses 226,000 square miles, 420 miles of coastline, 14 harbors, and the highest, lowest, and hottest spots in the contiguous 48 states. The region’s diverse political interests are represented by the eight U.S. senators, 45 U.S. representatives, and the governors of California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada.

Navigation channels for the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach account for a majority of West Coast trade and shipping. Major flood risk management projects include improvements to Prado Dam in Southern California. The District is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 16 dams, 14 navigation projects, 13 miles of breakwaters, and 54 miles of flood-control channels. The dams and recreation areas host more than 7 million visitors a year. Ecosystem restoration projects form a significant part of the District's workload and include the Los Angeles River project, focused on the restoration of riparian habitat and compatible recreation features. Military missions at nine installations include construction of F-35 fighter facilities at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The District also provides design and construction management support for other federal agencies, such as rehabilitation of infrastructure at VA facilities.
