Commander reflects on time as member of 9/11 search-and-rescue team
Col. Aaron Barta, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, speaks with employees during an Aug. 29 visit to the Corps' Regulatory Office in Carlsbad, California. Early in Barta's military career, he served as the commander of the Military District of Washington Engineer Company, now called the 911th Engineer Company, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. It was during that time that Barta and his team served on a search-and-rescue team after the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. Barta recently reflected on his personal experience as the events of that day unfolded.
