USACE Leads Recovery Efforts in Southern California Following Devastating Wildfires

LOS ANGELES — Col. Jeff Palazzini, commander of the Palisades Emergency Field Office, provides a critical update on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) debris removal mission across Southern California.

Following the Presidential Disaster Declaration, USACE is working under the direction of FEMA and in partnership with state and local agencies to clear hazardous debris from impacted communities. This mission is a vital first step in the recovery process, allowing residents to safely return and begin the journey of rebuilding their lives.
In this update, Col. Palazzini discusses:
• The Scale of Operations: Oversight of specialized contractors clearing thousands of tons of fire-damaged material.
• Environmental Stewardship: Ensuring the safe removal of hazardous household waste and soil stabilization to prevent runoff.
• Safety & Precision: The rigorous standards required to clear residential lots for future reconstruction.

"Our mission is about more than just moving debris; it’s about restoring hope and safety to these communities," said Palazzini. "The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is committed to working as quickly and safely as possible to help our neighbors in Southern California recover."
