Mill Creek Wetlands
Los Angeles District’s Deputy Chief of Programs and Project Management Division Ken Morris (fifth from right) joined officials from the cities of Chino and Ontario, San Bernardino County, Inland Empire Utilities Agencies, Orange County Water District, California State Water Boards and the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority for the groundbreaking of the Mill Creek Wetlands Project in Chino, Calif., Oct. 22. The wetlands project is an example of a public/private partnership working to develop a project with multiple regional benefits including; improved water quality in the Cucamonga Creek watershed, increased habitat within Prado Basin and enhanced recreational opportunities through the creation of about two miles of public use trails. Because the project is to be constructed in the Corps’ Prado Dam Flood Control Basin, the Corps team worked through a number of legal and policy issues to provide the proponents an outgrant for use of the property.
