General Information
Port San Luis is a small craft harbor near the coastal community of Avila Beach, California. The original breakwater at Port San Luis is one of the oldest structures in the Los Angeles District dating back to before the 1900’s. Significant repairs were made to the breakwater in 1936 and periodic repairs have been made since. Several failed attempts have been made over the years to expand Port San Luis to accommodate a complete small craft harbor and commercial shipping but local interests have repeatedly rejected expansion plans. The Los Angeles District of the Corps of Engineers provides intermittent support to maintain structures at Port San Luis.
