LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:
The project area is located in San Luis Obispo County, California approximately 230 miles north of Los Angeles. The Cambria community’s current water sources have not been reliable. Groundwater contamination has reduced their ability to draw water for potable uses. The Cambria Community Services
District (CCSD) plans to build a facility to ensure adequate water supply. SPL is funded under Section 219 to provide technical assistance to design and construct desalination infrastructure including preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
AUTHORIZATION:
WRDA 1992, Section 219; WRDA 1999, Section 502 (b); Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2001, Section 108 (f) (48) - WRDA, 2007 Section 5041.
ACTIVITIES FOR FY 2023: Carryover funds will be used to coordinate a plan forward with the sponsor.

ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION: Scope of Work for addition of features to the brackish water plant is being revised by sponsor. The CCSD constructed a temporary brackish water desalination plant, based on a conceptual design developed under this Project. The sponsor has requested assistance to construct improvements to the plant including pipelines, and a solar array to power the plant. CCSD’s preferred plan is to make this facility permanent. The district is currently evaluating project authority.
