LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:
Project is located southwest of the Phoenix metropolitan area in Maricopa County, AZ, and includes an 8-mile reach of the Salt and Gila Rivers, beginning at 83rd Ave and continuing downstream to the confluence with the Agua Fria River. The project will provide flood control protection and the use of treated effluent from a regional wastewater treatment facility to restore hydrological connectivity and sustain fish & wildlife habitat. The design includes a constructed engineered levee, restoration of 1,200 acres of riparian & wetland habitat, recreation development including hiking trails, nature walks, comfort stations, ramadas, cultural resources mitigation for identification, protection, and recovery of significant Native American artifacts. Potential General Re-evaluation Report (GRR) focus areas are Phases 4 & 5.

ACTIVITIES FOR FY 2023: Funds may possibly be used to coordinate and negotiate a Feasibility Cost Share Agreement (FCSA).
FY 2024 PLANNED ACCOMPLISHMENTS: With optimal funds continue the GRR investigation.
ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION: The Authorized Project Total Cost in WRDA 2000, SEC 101(b)(4) is $99,320,000.00. Current cost estimates exceed authorized cost-plus inflation. Therefore, GRR may possibly re-formulate alternatives of construction features not complete.
