    Brig. Gen. Mark Toy, commander of the Corps’ South Pacific Division, placed the Corps of Engineers flag into Gibb’s hands at the ceremony. In military tradition, passing the flag represents the transfer of command. The change of command ceremony today was held at the Community Center, Fort MacArthur, in San Pedro, California. Col. Kim Colloton relinquished command to Col. Kirk Gibbs during this traditional Army ceremony. Gibbs took command following an assignment as assistant deputy operations director within the National Military Command Center at the Pentagon. He is the 61st commander of the District. "To the employees of the District...," said Gibbs, " I will give you nothing less than my very best for the next three years, that is my commitment to you."

Mark Toy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District commander, attended the Society of American Military Engineers, Tucson Post’s, monthly meeting Dec. 19 to present information on the District and to let the assembled business leaders know how they can participate in Corps projects across the District’s area of responsibility.

    LA District participates in Tres Rios festival

    Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District joined with exhibitors and vendors at the Tres Rios Nature and Earth Festival held Oct. 27 at the Base Meridian Wildlife Area. The festival celebrates the recreational and educational opportunities available in Phoenix's West Valley and throughout the area.

  • PHOENIX - The Tres Rios Phase III Flow Regulating Wetlands, built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, received the 2012 Crescordia award from the Valley Forward Association in the Site Development and Landscape: Public Sector category. As part of Phase III, the District removed invasive plants along the river in order to help bring back a riparian corridor populated by more native vegetation.

    Tres Rios project wins Valley Forward award

    The Tres Rios Phase III Flow Regulating Wetlands received the 2012 Crescordia award from the Valley Forward Association in the Site Development and Landscape: Public Sector category. The awards program is the benchmark in Phoenix for promoting livability, conserving natural resources and sustaining the valley's desert environment for future generations.

    LAS VEGAS -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District's Nellis Resident Office recently completed a solar panel project at the Bureau of Land Management's fire station at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas. The new photovoltaic system is capable of generating 40 KWAC to provide power for all the buildings on the facility.

    District brings “green” power to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

    LAS VEGAS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District’s Nellis Resident Office recently completed a solar power project for the Bureau of Land Management at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. “The new photovoltaic system is capable of producing an average of 40 KWAC of electricity,” said Viet Q. Tran, project engineer at the Nellis office. “The calculated full load requirement to support the fire station is 38.6 KW; therefore, this solar system is designed to fully support the full load requirement.”
