O&M - Dana Point Harbor

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:  
The harbor is located approximately 40 miles southeast of the city Los Angeles and 60 miles north of the City of San Diego. 

The project consists of maintenance dredging of the entrance, main, east, and west channels; an anchorage; and a turning basin. The project also consists of maintenance of the west and east breakwater. The harbor is used for recreational and fishing purposes.


AUTHORIZATION:
River and Harbor Act of 1962.

ACTIVITIES FOR FY 2023:
Funds will be used to complete Plans and Specifications (P&S), Environmental Assessment, Design Documentation Report, and perform DQC and BCOES level reviews.

IIJA ACTIVITIES:
Funds used to prepare P&S and environmental
assessment for repair of the west breakwater.

FY 2024 PLANNED ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Optimal funds could be used to award a contract for repair of the failed west breakwater.

ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION:
The Corps of Engineers performed a comprehensive condition survey of the breakwater in FY10, funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Annual structural reviews since then have tracked continued degradation and failure of the structure.
