LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:
Channel Islands Harbor is located on the coast of California between Port Hueneme and Ventura. The Harbor is the home port for a US Coast Guard cutter. Approximately 120,000 vessel passages are made annually. The Harbor is also the homeport for 35 charter fishing, diving, and whale watching boats, and is used by vessels servicing the offshore oil platforms. There are nine full-service marinas and the Harbor provides berths for 2,150 boats. The Harbor is divided into three areas (west, east and peninsula) served by separate public roads, with each area providing different services. The west side consists of marinas, a linear park, restaurants, residential development and retail businesses. The peninsula is dominated by hotel development, marinas, apartments and condominiums. The east side is primarily commercial and serves boaters by offering boat yards, a marine supply store, boat sales, law enforcement, administration and search and rescue facilities. The Harbor has a maintenance dredging schedule of every other year. The US Navy provides 19% of the maintenance dredging costs.

AUTHORIZATION: Rivers and Harbors Act of 1954

ACTIVITIES FOR FY 2023: Planned carryover funds will be used to conduct critical dredging of sand trap and dredge additional cubic yards to entrance channel. Funds will also be used to perform maintenance dredging of the Entrance Channel and Sand Trap. Approximately 2.4 million cubic yards of material will be dredged and placed on the eroded down coast beaches.

IIJA ACTIVITIES: Funds were used to conduct annual structure survey to track progression of failures.

FY 2024 PLANNED ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Optimal funds could be used to award the next phase of the Maintenance dredging contract.

ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION: Condition of the harbor entrance is good. Project is critical to replenish the down coast Hueneme Beach.
