LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:
The study area is located in the City of Buckeye, AZ, within Maricopa County, which includes the stretch of the Gila River from Perryville Road to Phoenix Bypass Route 85. Key infrastructure and residences are at risk of inundation associated with flows from the north bank of the Gila River. The purpose of this project is to reduce flood risk originating from the Gila River within the City of Buckeye and unincorporated Maricopa County. A Federal Interest Determination (FID) study was performed and based on an economic analysis there appeared to be preliminary federal interest in a project to reduce the risk of flood damage to the City of Buckeye’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The Feasibility Study is in progress focused on flood risk reduction at the WWTP.
