LA, Philadelphia engineers conduct hydraulic steel structure inspection at Sepulveda Dam
The Sepulveda Dam underwent a hydraulic steel structure inspection March 22-23. Gabby Bernaldino, civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, observes the Los Angeles River from high on the rampart of the castle-like entrance to the interior of the dam, high above the riverbed March 22 in Van Nuys, California. The dam – constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in response to the historic 1938 flooding of Los Angeles – was completed in 1941 and dedicated in 1942.
