Corps participates in mitigation bank opening in north Los Angeles County

Federal, state and local officials celebrated the grand opening Oct. 7 of the Petersen Ranch Mitigation Bank, an effort that will eventually restore about 4000 acres of native wetland habitat along the San Andreas Fault rift zone in the Leona Valley north of Los Angeles.

Veronica Li, a senior project manager in the Los Angeles District’s Regulatory Division, received the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Don Lawyer Regulator of the Year Award during a ceremony held Aug. 6 in Washington D.C.

Corps announces closure of Regulatory offices due to government shutdown

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District today announced it will close its Regulatory offices due to the absence of available federal funding. Regulatory offices will be unable to evaluate individual permit applications, Pre-Construction Notifications for Nationwide Permit or Regional General Permit authorizations, or requests for jurisdictional determinations until after current year funding is received and the offices reopen.

Soils training gets down in the mud at salt pond

Twenty regulators and biologists left the comfort and safety of their offices March 20 to slosh through mud and muck in their search for hydric soils at a former salt mining pond in San Diego Bay.
