SPL-2024-1030-NLH-Drft EA Deviation to the Prado Dam Water Control Plan

Los Angeles
Published Oct. 30, 2024
Expiration date: 12/16/2024

The Orange County Water District (OCWD) has requested a deviation from the Interim Water Control Plan (IWCP) recently updated in April 2021 (referenced throughout the Draft Environmental Assessment document as the “WCP”). The WCP reflects the 2021 expansion of buffer pool levels to WSE 505 ft. any time of the year. The Proposed Action would allow the temporary expansion of the buffer pool in Prado Basin from WSE 505 ft. to 508 ft. for a five-year period upon approval of the project.

Under flood control operations (during a major storm event), water may be held up to the current maximum basin elevation of 556 ft. as needed to allow for controlled releases.  The proposed modification to the WCP would not affect flood control operations but would increase the allowable flood season water conservation pool up to 508 ft. elevation any time of the year.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public; federal, state, and local agencies and officials; and other interested parties in order to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed project and alternatives.   The document can be viewed here:                    https://usace.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p16021coll7/id/26891

Comments will be accepted from November 4, 2024 to December 4, 2024.
