Public Notices

A public notice is the primary method for advising all interested parties of a proposed activity for which a permit is sought. Soliciting comments and information necessary to evaluate the probable impacts on the public interest. Public notices are also published to inform the public about new or proposed regulations, policies, guidance or permit procedures.  

Public Notices published by the Los Angeles District are posted on these three pages. There are two types of Public Notices; Regulatory and Project Public Notices. Comments are due by the expiration date of the public notice. 

Only comments submitted by email or in hard copy format through a delivery service, such as the U.S. Postal Service, can be accepted.   Comments must be submitted to the address listed in the public notice.

SPL-2014-CHB-11 Proposal to Place Sand and Gravel at Downstream Operations Areas, Whittier Narrows Dam, Pico Rivera, CA.

The Corps is preparing an Environmental Assessment for a proposal to be undertaken on Operations areas at Whittier Narrows Flood Control Basin. 

 

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, proposes to preposition approximately 600 tons of sand and 600 tons of gravel on Corps Operations-controlled lands located downstream of Whittier Narrows Dam which is managed for flood risk management.  Once placed, these materials would be used in the potential case of a short-term need for work at downstream Dam locations.  The project would take 6 weeks or less.  The materials would remain on site for interim risk reduction use until determined no longer needed.

 

The Corps is inviting the general public to submit comments on potential environmental impacts that could result from implementation of the proposal.  A 15-day public comment period on preparation of the EA for this proposal will extend from July 25-August 9, 2014, and the Corps will consider all submissions received on or postmarked by August 9.
