Water Management


The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is responsible for the ownership, operation and maintenance of various flood control basins across California, Arizona and Nevada. Our mission is to effectively manage water resources, while ensuring public safety and environmental sustainability.


Our Operations
Southern California - We manage basins in three main regions: 

  • Los Angeles County Drainage Area (LACDA): Brea Dam, Fullerton Dam, Hansen Dam, Lopez Dam, Santa Fe Dam, Sepulveda Dam, and Whittier Narrows Dam. 
  • Santa Ana River (SAR) Basin: San Antonio Dam, Carbon Canyon Dam, and Prado Dam.  
  • Mojave River Basin: Mojave River Dam.  

Arizona - Home to the Bill Williams River Basin and the Gila River Basin, which include key structures such as Alamo Dam, Painted Rock Dam, and Whitlow Dam.  

Southern Nevada - Managing the Muddy River Basin, which includes Mathews Canyon Dam and Pine Canyon Dam.

Section 7 Projects
In addition to our directly managed projects, these Section 7 Projects are owned and operated by other Federal or County agencies. The Los Angeles District oversees their flood control regulation. These include: Seven Oaks Dam, Twitchell Dam, Modified Roosevelt Dam, Hoover Dam and Tat Momolikot Dam.
