    Upon issuing a film permit, another group of Corps professionals step in to ensure the environment is protected and facilities are not damaged during filming. Most of all, they ensure filming is conducted in a safe manner. For example, in May, the U.S. Army National Guard released their newest commercial, which was filmed in the Corps’ Whittier Narrows flood control basin and incldued high risk maneuvers using a Blackhawk helicopter.

    Los Angeles District employees often play a role in film productions

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is sometimes nicknamed the Hollywood District. This is because movie companies often need to shoot in uncongested and iconic areas of Los Angeles and regularly appeal to the Corps for permission to film on properties the district manages.

    The District's new Emergency Command and Control Vehicle, operated by Alex Watt, made its debut appearance at the City of Torrance's 53rd Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration May 19 and was led by the District's commander, Col. Mark Toy, wife May, daughter Kayla and son Brandon. The Toys carried the District's banner, followed by the ECCV, Fany Anderson of the District's safety office and Bobber the Water Safety Dog, along the two-mile parade route.

    District returns to Armed Forces Day in Torrance

    The Los Angeles District returned to the City of Torrance to participate in its 53rd Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration here May 19.

Rep. Ken Calvert, along with Corps, base and local community officials, celebrated the milestone during a ribbon cutting ceremony here March 10.

Ken Calvert, along with Corps, base and local community officials, celebrated the milestone during a ribbon cutting ceremony here March 10.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Barstow Chamber of Commerce held an Industry Day at the Barstow Community College in efforts to attract potential local contractors for a $100 million water plant for Fort Irwin and National Training Center Feb. 22. After the morning briefings, transportation to Fort Irwin was provided by the City of Barstow Chamber of Commerce.
