    The Army Reserve Center project is in the "punch list" stage with safety officials, contractors and District project delivery teams making final inspections before furniture is installed and the customer takes possession in October. The ARC is the headquarters for the 79th Sustainment Support Command which was activated Dec. 1, 2009.

    Joint Forces Training Base home to energy-efficient headquarters

    Soldiers, family members and civilians of the 79th Sustainment Support Command will soon have a new headquarters, organizational maintenance area and acres of parking at the Joint Forces Training Base here. The work is all part of a nearly $25 million project managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District.
  • During the graduation event, Leadership Development Program participants gave presentations for Col. Mark Toy, Los Angeles District Commander, and other senior leaders. Presentations ranged from proposed sponsorship packages so new employees would feel more welcomed into the District to a totally new way of distributing employees across the District to maximize productivity and increase quality of life.

    District celebrates future leaders

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District celebrated a successful completion to another year of Leadership Development Program (LDP) Level I and LDP Level II,during a ceremony held at the District headquarters Sept. 12.

    Col. Mark Toy, the Los Angeles District commander, presented Dr. Wen Chang with a command coin and a certificate which read in part, the District’s appreciation for Chang’s “outstanding leadership, dedication and technical expertise for the Asset Management, the Programs and Project Management, and the Planning Divisions and in the development of the FY14 Watershed-Based Budget Pilot Proposal for the Santa Ana River Watershed. Dr. Chang currently provides technical and budgeting support within the Natural Resources Management Program. His national perspective in all of these areas has been an invaluable asset to the District.”

    Visiting IWR economist departing District

    Dr. Wen-Huei Chang, a water resources economist from the Institute of Water Services, left the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District Aug. 22 after working with three of the District’s divisions on temporary assignment for nearly five months.
  • LUKE AFB, Ariz. -- This artist’s rendering show what a proposed Squadron Operations building for the incoming F-35 squadrons at Luke AFB may look like when it is complete. The Air Force officially announced the base as the site of the Air Force's F-35A Lightning II pilot training center Aug. 1. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is scheduled to begin construction in Oct. 2012.

    LA District preparing for construction on Luke AFB

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District Arizona/Nevada Area Office’s Roadrunner Resident Office is preparing to award between $90 and $110 million in military construction and Operations and Maintenance work at Luke Air Force Base.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and URS Corporation have held ping pong leagues for several years and ultimately hold a championship tournament on the seventh-floor patio of their downtown Los Angeles office building. In the men’s division, it was an all-District final as ACE-IT contractor Bee Cha won three sets to one against David Coltharp (pictured) of the asset management division.

    Arizona project engineer named Employee of the Quarter

  • Col. Mark Toy, Los Angeles District commander, Lt. Col Robert Blankenship, L.A. Recruiting Battalion commander, Bob Huber, City of Simi Valley mayor, J.D. Kennedy, office of Rep. Buck McKeon, and Capt. Jeffrey Warstler, company commander, cut the ribbon ceremonially opening the Los Angeles Recruiting Battalion's newest station in Simi Valley, Calif., June 20. The Los Angeles District manages more than 250 recruiting station leases throughout Southern California, Arizona and Nevada, as part of the Department of Defense Recruiting Facilities Program.
