PHOENIX– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District Arizona-Nevada Area Office held its annual Engineer Day Celebration April 6 at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park here.

Engineer Day is normally celebrated among Corps of Engineers team members in June; but, the leadership in the District decided April was a more appropriate month because of the Arizona heat. Team members and their families gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year.

“I’m so glad to see so many of you here,” said Col. Mark Toy, L.A. District commander. “So much has happened between last year and now. I’m consistently impressed by your professionalism, by your devotion to the people we serve and your devotion to each other.”

Team members enjoyed an assortment of barbecued meats, sides and desserts. Members of the Los Angeles office joined in a volleyball match against the members of the Arizona-Nevada team. The L.A. team took the best-of-three series.

There were also awards for team members’ service and door prizes for attendees. As the afternoon waned and the celebration wound to a close, team members hugged and shook hands. The day’s festivities were over; but, the memories of the games played, the meal enjoyed and the good times had would be shared until the next celebration.
