Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works announces ‘Build Infrastructure, Not Paperwork’ transformation initiative for the Army’s Civil Works program

Today, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam R. Telle announced a major initiative, “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork,” for the Army’s Civil Works program. “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork” will provide greater focus on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) core Civil Works missions, while minimizing non-core programs, direct funding to priority water resources projects that will provide the greatest benefits to the nation, shorten permitting timelines and reduce or eliminate extraneous regulations and paperwork that slow USACE’s delivery of Civil Works projects and programs.

USACE completes wildfire debris removal on final parcel along Pacific Coast Highway

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with FEMA, California Office of Emergency Services, Los Angeles County and other local agencies, has completed debris removal on the final FEMA-assigned parcel along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, as part of ongoing recovery efforts from the 2025 Palisades Fire.

Corps, partners break ground on new Simulations Center at Fort Irwin

Senior leaders with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Fort Irwin broke ground March 23 on a new Simulations Center at the installation, which is home to the National Training Center. “It has been a 10-year journey to get us here, but this is a critical inflection point in Fort Irwin’s history, and, more importantly, in where we are going as an Army,” said Brig. Gen. Curtis Taylor, commanding general of the National Training Center. “It just so happens that this project came to fruition in just the right time.”

District cases colors during inactivation ceremony

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Pacific Border District cased its colors Feb. 25 during an inactivation ceremony in Phoenix. Division leaders gathered virtually and in person to reflect on the District’s historic accomplishments. “Today is about celebrating this incredible team and acknowledging the District’s contributions to the history of the nation,” said Col. Antoinette R. Gant, South Pacific Division commander and one of the former commanders of the District. “When the need was there, we rose to the occasion – and now it’s time to apply what we have learned to other missions.”

Corps gives tour of Sepulveda Dam to UCLA engineering students

Peering out over the edge of the Sepulveda Dam Spillway, on most given days, less than a foot of standing water can be seen in the basin below. Off in the distance, cars pass over a bridge along Burbank Boulevard, a frequently traveled thoroughfare to the 405 Freeway toward San Diego. During a large rain event, the entire area, including Burbank Boulevard, could be under water, explained John DeSimone, dam tender, Operations Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, to a group of about a dozen University of California, Los Angeles engineering students touring the dam April 25.
