California youth learn from the best

Amongst the training of the U.S. military’s elite at the Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, a California Military Department base, the National Guard showed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a congresswoman on Oct. 13 how they help the state’s youth improve their lives with education.

LEED is how the U.S. Green Building Council rates a project for its design and achievement in categories like sustainability, water efficiency, energy conservation and design innovation.

Corps, CalGuard open youth facility

The Corps managed the $1.6 million renovation project constructed by contractor Alpine Diversified, Inc., of Palmdale, Calif. Alpine performed the work within budget and nearly three months ahead of schedule. The contractor renovated nine classrooms and several offices, turning dilapidated buildings into world-class teaching facilities.
