    District leadership visit Arizona project sites

    Col. Julie Balten, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, and David Van Dorpe, deputy district engineer, toured Arizona-Nevada Area Office projects Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 in Arizona. Her first visit to Arizona since assuming command in July. Balten met stakeholders, spoke with employees, presented awards and viewed key projects.

    LA District team members brave the elements for annual Tres Rios Nature Festival

    Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District’s Arizona/Nevada Area Office joined with exhibitors and vendors at the annual Tres Rios Nature and Earth Festival held Mar. 9 and 10 at the Baseline and Meridian Wildlife Area near the Phoenix International Raceway. District team members talked with members of the public about projects across the Valley, the state and the LA District, which covers Southern California, all of Arizona, and portions of Nevada and Utah. One of the major local projects the team discussed was the Tres Rios Environmental Restoration Project.

    District project earns environmental design award

    Col. Mark Toy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District commander, presented the Chief of Engineers Award of Excellence for Environmental Design to the City of Phoenix and representatives from the District’s Arizona-Nevada Area Office, Archer-Western Contractors, Ltd., and Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., for work done at the Tres Rios Environmental Restoration project, Phase II Flow Regulating and Overbank Wetlands, during a ceremony held Nov. 1 at Phoenix City Hall.

    LA District participates in Tres Rios festival

    Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District joined with exhibitors and vendors at the Tres Rios Nature and Earth Festival held Oct. 27 at the Base Meridian Wildlife Area. The festival celebrates the recreational and educational opportunities available in Phoenix's West Valley and throughout the area.
  • Tres Rios project wins Valley Forward award

    The Tres Rios Phase III Flow Regulating Wetlands received the 2012 Crescordia award from the Valley Forward Association in the Site Development and Landscape: Public Sector category. The awards program is the benchmark in Phoenix for promoting livability, conserving natural resources and sustaining the valley's desert environment for future generations.
