    Congressional reps visit Whittier Narrows Dam

    The Los Angeles District welcomed congressional leaders with the House Subcommittee on Water Re-sources and the Environment April 2 at the district’s Base Yard in South El Monte. The committee, its staff and Los Angeles County Department of Public Works officials received a comprehensive briefing about the district’s management of the Los Angeles County Drainage Area flood control system, Whittier Narrows Dam and water conservation priorities for the Water Resources Development Act, or WRDA, of 2024.

    Tool streamlines Corps’ power mission response during disasters

    The Emergency Power Facility Assessment Tool, or EPFAT, is designed to store important information regarding the emergency power needs of critical facilities, including hospitals and emergency response organizations. The Los Angeles District is encouraging the thousands of organizations eligible for emergency temporary power support to enroll in EPFAT, which greatly minimizes emergency response time in the event of a disaster.

    Final bucket marks completion of Port of LA channel deepening

    Standing on the fantail of the USS Iowa, dignitaries watched as a dredge lifted the final bucket of material from the water and emptied it into an adjacent barge, marking the end of a $370 million channel deepening project at the Port of Los Angeles April 3.
