Sahuarita Air Force Range Public Meeting

Published July 6, 2017

A Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study will be conducted at the former Sahuarita Air Force Range under the Military Munitions Response Program.

The MMRP was established by congress, to address sites that may contain Unexploded Ordnance, Discarded Military Munitions, or Munitions Constituents.

Site Inspection field activities were conducted in September 2007. SI activities included visual surveys with hand-held magnetometers and collection of environmental media (i.e., soil and groundwater) samples.

Based on the SI, further investigation was warranted at the site to determine the nature and extent of potential munitions and MC contamination.

An Rl/FS is performed to gather enough information to determine nature and extent of potential contamination and which remedy for the site would be most effective. RI activities will include sampling for MC contamination and geophysical investigations for munitions and explosives of concern. Data collected during the RI will be utilized to determine how much contamination is at the site and determine if remedial actions are required.

Documents regarding the Rl/FS and upcoming project work are available for review at the Sahuarita Town Hall Council Chambers, 375 W. Sahuarita Center Way, Sahuarita, Arizona 85629.

A Public Meeting will be held on July 6, 2017 at 5:30 pm at the Sahuarita Unified School District located at 350 W Sahuarita Road, Auditorium Pod B, Sahuarita, AZ 85629.
