Corps to host media event about Whittier Narrows Dam study

LOS ANGELES - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will host a media event to provide an update on the Whittier Narrows Dam Safety Modification Study.

The event will be at noon (Pacific Standard Time) Feb. 20.

Speakers will include Col. Aaron Barta, commander of the Corps' Los Angeles District, and Douglas Chitwood, project lead engineer.

The goal of the media event is to facilitate understanding of the importance of the Whittier Narrows Dam Safety Modification Study.

The Corps recently completed a multi-year study that highlights the key recommendations for modifying the dam, courses of action and different flood scenarios. The Corps is being proactive with the recommended modifications to ensure the dam continues to perform as needed well into the future.

Those planning to attend should meet at 11:45 a.m. at the Corps' Los Angeles District Baseyard entrance at 645 Durfee Ave., South El Monte. The gate entrance is on Santa Anita Avenue. Media will meet the public affairs team at the gate and convoy out to Whittier Narrows Dam.
