The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct a Chief of Engineer’s Environmental Advisory Board public meeting July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences & Engineering, 100 Academy Way, Irvine, CA 92617.
The EAB was created as a means for the Chief of Engineers to gain outside, expert and independent advice on environmental issues facing the Corps of Engineers. The board is also used as a vehicle of communication to reach out and build partnerships, understanding and cooperation with the environmental community and the public at large. The Environmental Advisory Board plays a key role in contributing to enhanced mutual understanding and confidence between the Corps and both the general public and the conservation community.
The advisory board meets once or twice a year to advise the Chief of Engineers by providing independent advice and recommendations on matters relating to environmental issues facing the Corps of Engineers.
The agenda will include how the host District is “Living the Environmental Operating Principles;” discussions on ongoing EAB work efforts, such as invasive species, environmental metrics, strategic planning, and monitoring and adaptive management; and presentations and discussions about regional sediment management.
Seating is limited and is on a first-to-arrive basis. Attendees will be asked to provide their name, title, affiliation, and contact information, to include email address and daytime telephone number, at registration.
A 15-minute period near the end of the meeting will be available for verbal public comments. The public or interested organizations may also submit written comments or statements to the EAB about its mission and/or the topics to be addressed in this public meeting. To make a comment, the public must email one of the designated federal officers (below) with a brief statement about the subject matter to be addressed by the comment, at least five business days (July 5) in advance. Only people who have submitted requests by the deadline will be allowed to speak. Each speaker will be allotted only three minutes.
