Alamo Dam sill replacement - Delayed

Published Jan. 30, 2020

PHOENIX — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District has scheduled the Alamo Dam sill repair from Feb. 13 - 28. Site mobilization is Feb. 10 - 12. Some restrictions will be in place.

The dam is located on the Bill Williams River, 39 miles upstream from the Colorado River at Lake Havasu, Arizona.

Lake level will be maintained at its target elevation of 1,125 feet; however, the main boat ramp will be closed to the public during this time period. The Cholla Boat Ramp in the Cholla Campground will remain open.

Once the sill is removed, it will be replaced with a new one to facilitate the eventual installation of a new bulkhead gate. The gate was removed in 2018 for nondestructive testing. A decision has been made to commission a new gate rather than refurbishing the old one.

The bulkhead gate is required to maintain the upper conduit and the service and emergency gates, as well as the lower conduit of the dam.

For your and the divers' safety, the area immediately adjacent to the dam will be closed to boaters.
