Los Angeles District
Published July 20, 2021

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting an informal public information meeting regarding the Sahuarita Air Force Range Formerly Used Defense Site.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 - 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Sahuarita Town Hall – Council Chambers, 375 W. Sahuarita.

The meeting will consist of an informational poster display and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representatives on hand to discuss the site and safety steps to follow if you suspect that you have come across a munitions item. A short presentation about the history of the site, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers investigation process, and munitions safety information will be given at the beginning of the meeting. Community members and interested parties may arrive anytime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to learn about the former Sahuarita Air Force Range.

Since military munitions may still be present at the Sahuarita Air Force Range Formerly Used Defense Site, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages community members and visitors to follow the 3Rs of Explosives Safety: Recognize – when you may have encountered a munitions item and that munitions are dangerous; Retreat – do not approach, touch, move or disturb it, but carefully leave the area; and Report – call 911 and advise the police of what you saw and where you saw it.
