Sepulveda Dam Master Plan revision public comment period open now through March 26

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District
Published Feb. 10, 2025

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is revising the 2011 Sepulveda Dam Master Plan and is accepting public comments from Feb. 10 through March 26.

During the 45-day public comment period, the public is invited to send comments, suggestions and concerns.

The current MP, last approved in 2011, needs revision to address changes in regional land use, population, outdoor recreation trends and the USACE management policy. Key topics to be discussed in the revised MP include revised land use classifications, new natural and recreational resource management objectives, recreation facility needs, and special issues such as invasive species management and threatened and endangered species habitat.

USACE defines the MP as the strategic land use management document that guides the comprehensive management and development of all recreational, natural, and cultural resources throughout the life of the water resource development project. It defines "how" resources will be managed for public use and conservation.

Revision of the MP will not address in detail the technical and operational aspects of the dam related to flood-risk management or the water conservation missions of the project. The Master Plan study area will include Sepulveda Dam proper and all adjacent recreational and natural resources properties under Federal Fee ownership.

Public participation is critical to successfully revising the 2011 MP. Information regarding this Master Plan Revision, including the current MP, revision content, process, and a general schedule may be viewed on the USACE website at the following link: https://www.spl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Asset-Management/Sepulveda-Dam/

Comments must be submitted in writing at the scheduled open house, mailed to the USACE: Trevor Snyder – Project Manager, 645 Durfee Ave, Bldg. #2, South El Monte, CA 91733, or emailed to: splops@usace.army.mil.
