Channel Islands Harbor maintenance dredging completed

LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the latest maintenance dredging project at Channel Islands Harbor, removing about 2.3 million cubic yards of material from the entrance and sand traps and placing that material on the down coast beaches.

The contractor, Manson Construction Co., of Seattle, Washington, dredged the harbor from Oct. 14 to Jan. 29, at a cost of about $13.5 million. 

The 2.3 million cubic yards of sand was used to renourish Hueneme Beach and Silver Strand Beach and will provide benefits to the entire down coast cell terminating at Pt. Mugu.

The Corps anticipates conducting its next maintenance dredging is Fiscal Year 2017.
