  • Construction - Western Rural Water, AZ City of Maricopa-Aquifer Recharge Facility

    SECTION 595 AUTHORITY & PURPOSE: Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 1999 Section 595 authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to provide design and construction assistance for water supply, wastewater treatment, environmental restoration, and surface water protection to rural communities. Section 4008 of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 amended WRDA 1999 Section 595, authorizing $490M for technical assistance to small and rural communities in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. WRDA 2020 added a $150M authorization for Arizona projects with WRDA 2022 increasing the authorization by $50M ($200M total).

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: The project area includes about 4.3 miles of flood risk reduction levee and improvements located along the Little Colorado River near Winslow, Arizona. Approx. 1,600 structures, including many of the City’s critical public facilities (hospitals, schools, nursing homes, utility infrastructure are located within the 1% Annual Chase of Exceedance ACE, flood plan.
  • Investigations - Rio Salado Oeste, AZ

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: The potential project area is located entirely within the City of Phoenix, along eight miles of the Salt River, from 19th Avenue to 83rd Avenue, downstream (West or Oeste) of the on-going Rio Salado project and upstream of the Tres Rios Project. The recommended plan includes restoration of nearly 1,500 acres of riparian and flood plain habitat with recreation and incidental flood damage reduction.
