  • Investigations - Tres Rios GRR, AZ

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: Project is located southwest of the Phoenix metropolitan area in Maricopa County, AZ, and includes an 8-mile reach of the Salt and Gila Rivers, beginning at 83rd Ave and continuing downstream to the confluence with the Agua Fria River. The project will provide flood control protection and the use of treated effluent from a regional wastewater treatment facility to restore hydrological connectivity and sustain fish & wildlife habitat.

  • Construction - Western Rural Water, AZ City of Buckeye – Buckeye Wastewater Treatment Plant

    SECTION 595 AUTHORITY & PURPOSE: Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 1999 Section 595 authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to provide design and construction assistance for water supply, wastewater treatment, environmental restoration, and surface water protection to rural communities.
  • Construction - Western Rural Water, AZ

    SECTION 595 AUTHORITY AND PURPOSE: Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 1999 Section 595 authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to provide design and construction assistance for water supply, wastewater treatment, environmental restoration, and surface water protection to rural communities. Section 4008 of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2022 amended WRDA 1999 Section 595, authorizing $490M for technical assistance to small and rural communities in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. WRDA 2020 added a $150M authorization for Arizona projects with WRDA 2022 increasing the authorization by $50M ($200M total). Projects are to be cost shared 75% Federal and 25% non-Federal. The Federal share may be in the form of reimbursements.
  • Continuing Authorities Program (205) - Hall/Gila River, AZ

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: The study area is located in the City of Buckeye, AZ, within Maricopa County, which includes the stretch of the Gila River from Perryville Road to Phoenix Bypass Route 85. Key infrastructure and residences are at risk of inundation associated with flows from the north bank of the Gila River. The purpose of this project is to reduce flood risk originating from the Gila River within the City of Buckeye and unincorporated Maricopa County.
  • Construction - Rio Salado, Phoenix & Tempe Reaches, AZ

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: Phoenix Reach located along 5.0 mi of Salt River, from I-10 Bridge to 19th Avenue in Phoenix. Tempe Reach located along 1.3 miles on Indian Bend Wash from McKellips Road downstream to confluence with the Salt River in Tempe and includes two separated half-mile reaches of the Salt River. The ecosystem restoration project restores a highly degraded urban river, enhancing native plant communities and federally listed threatened & endangered species habitat by returning the area to a more natural condition. Recreation & environmental education opportunities are included.
  • Investigations - Va Shly’AY Akimel, AZ

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: Va Shly-Ay Akimel (Pronounced va sha lai akimel) project area is located along approximately 14 miles of the Salt River on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community between Granite Reef Dam and SR 101 Bridge in Maricopa County, Arizona. The project includes reshaping of the river channel to provide a low-flow channel and terraces, construction of new drainage channels, irrigation diversions, and pipelines, a groundwater well to water vegetation, a grade control structure at Gilbert Rd,, a recreation plan including rails, a cost-shared monitor and adaption of a management plan.
  • Construction - City of Norwalk, CA

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: The City of Norwalk, located in the southwest part of Los Angeles County, is primarily a residential community with a population of approximately 105,500. The proposed multi-year program would provide for the upgrading of the City’s water distribution, transmission mains and fire system, in order to provide increased system reliability, water quality and fire protection.
  • Investigations - East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration, CA

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: The study area is located offshore of the City of Long Beach, California in the easternmost part of San Pedro Bay. It includes the area between the Long Beach shoreline and the offshore Middle and Long Beach Breakwaters. The purpose of the study is to evaluate opportunities for providing ecosystem restoration by restoring and improving aquatic ecosystem structure and function for increased habitat diversity and ecosystem value, increased recreational opportunities and other improvements offshore within the proposed project area of East San Pedro Bay.
  • O&M - Los Angeles-Long Beach Harbor, CA

    LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: The project is located approximately 25 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles in San Pedro Bay. Two of the world’s largest ports are located within this harbor - Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach. Port of Los Angeles (POLA) is ranked the busiest container port in the US and number 17 in the world.
