  • Chief of Engineers signs report recommending ecosystem restoration in Prado Basin

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ top general signed a report April 22 – on Earth Day – recommending a plan to restore more than 600 acres of valuable riparian habitat within the largest riparian forest in Southern California. Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, the Corps’ commanding general and 55th U.S. Army chief of engineers, signed the Chief of Engineer’s Report for the Prado Basin Ecosystem Restoration and Water Conservation Feasibility Study at the Corps’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. The project is headed by the Corps’ Los Angeles District, in partnership with the Orange County Water District.
  • Corps reclassifies Prado Dam, implements risk-reduction measures

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has changed Prado Dam’s risk characterization from moderate urgency to high urgency, based on a recent assessment. In May 2019, a site specific evaluation was conducted to assess conditions associated with the dam as part of a periodic review of its performance. Risk factors identified indicate the potential for poor spillway performance, which could have adverse impacts to the downstream population, if a significant flood event occurs.

  • Corps awards Santa Ana River bank protection contract

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District awarded a $22.5 million contract to John S. Meek Company, a Gardena, California-based firm, to construct Reach 9-Phase 5A, north bank protection, along the Santa Ana River in Orange County, California, Sept. 28.
  • Army Corps will host public meeting on Santa Ana River habitat restoration

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a second public meeting at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Norco City Hall, 2820 Clark Avenue, Norco, 92860, to discuss habitat restoration efforts upstream of the Prado Dam.
