  • Flood agencies illustrate disaster threat, need for preparation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and California's Department of Water Resources are promoting California Flood Preparedness Week, Oct. 20-25, by releasing two video products to improve Californians’ awareness and preparedness for flooding.

  • Closure order in effect for Mt. Charleston berm and diversion channel project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and agencies in the State of Nevada, is informing members of the public of a closure order in effect in the work area of the berm and diversion channel structure being built in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. The closure order, signed by the forest supervisor for the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, is in effect until it is rescinded.

  • Corps awards Prado Dam paint removal contract

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $364,620 contract Sept. 25 to OTIE Enterprises of Milwaukee, Wisc., to remove lead-based paint and graffiti from the face of the Prado Dam spillway.

  • Corps to begin construction on Mt. Charleston berm and diversion channel

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and agencies in the State of Nevada, will begin construction on a berm and diversion channel structure just outside the Rainbow Subdivision Oct. 9. The District and Forest Service plan to complete the construction as soon as possible.

  • Corps, partners preparing for Mount Charleston public meeting

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will participate in a public meeting with officials from the USDA Forest Service, the State of Nevada and other local agencies at the Mount Charleston Volunteer Fire Department Engine Station #81 at 25 Ski Chalet Place on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.

  • Corps boots back on the ground in Mt. Charleston

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District has a team in place surveying the area in preparation for construction of a temporary berm and diversion channel structure along the Rainbow Subdivision in Mt. Charleston. Once the team completes its survey to see if any of the on-site features requires a change to the design due to the most recent flooding event, the District will continue through an accelerated review process and on to final plans and specs prior to construction.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that the levee maintenance road along the south bank of the San Luis Rey River will be open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic during the bi-weekly restoration and monitoring work.

    LOS ANGELES--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers received guidance from Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy May 27 on moving forward with further development of the Los Angeles River Ecosystem Restoration Study and future documentation.

    LOS ANGELES--Under the Advanced Measures mandate (Public Law 84-99), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District has designed and received funding for construction of a temporary structure to divert water and debris away from the Rainbow Canyon subdivision in Mt. Charleston, Nev. However, the structure cannot be built.
