  • Corps awards $3.28 million contract for Santa Barbara County debris removal

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District awarded a $3.28 million contract to Silverstrand Construction of San Diego, California, Jan. 12, for emergency debris removal in Santa Barbara County flood basins to restore capacity and reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will remove debris in Santa Barbara County to support Federal Emergency Management Agency response operations following the California Wildfires. The Corps received a verbal mission assignment from FEMA Jan. 10.

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District activated its Reservoir Operations Center in anticipation of excessive rainfall from storms across Southern California over the weekend. Staff will monitor rain forecasts, river flows and the amount of water temporarily stored in Corps basins.
  • Corps will host public meeting for two formerly used defense sites

    Since military munitions may still be present in the former training areas, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages visitors to follow the 3Rs of Explosives Safety: Recognize that you may have encountered a munition and that munitions are dangerous; Retreat from the area without touching or picking up the item; and Report what you found to the Bureau of Land Management or local law enforcement.
